On 20.10.2024, the sun rose for the Jubilee 10th Corgi Herding Day and Olympia in the strictest sense of the word… for 10 years, the sun always shines when corgis gather in one place! It is almost shocking how quickly 10 years in the history of this event have passed. No less than 176 corgis passed the FCI herding instinct test during the 10 year corgi days!! On the 10th Corgi Herding Day 26 dogs met the requirements.
This is a great opportunity for Hungarian corgis, because in most European countries there are not so much herding opportunities and events of this or similar kind for the breed, so the professional domestic and international press highlights the extraordinary nature of this event every year. The preparation for this day was filled with nostalgia, and the result was the album, which passed through many hands during the day and revived the history of the past years: the results and the most beautiful moments. The completion of the album was necessary in order to visualize the 1st event which was a 22-person kennel meeting herding day and the year-by-year development. It is a pleasure that at the 10th anniversary, not only the number of dogs and participants were extra high, but representatives of almost every major Hungarian kennels showed up and they were able to close the day with many nice results.
Of course spending time with dogs has always visible results, but here there are many competitions for which instincts and motivation, basic intelligence are more than enough. Every year, the judges are impressed by the corgis’ intelligence, motivation, excellent work skills and diversity. I had to fight with emotions again and again when I looked around during the day at the many dogs and owners who selflessly complete new invented tasks and for them this is the most awaited event of the year.
I am very proud that this event has grown to such a size and that we can admire so many hard-working corgis in one place year after year. Thank you for the fact that, in addition to the dogs, their owners are also sporty, happy with each other’s successes, and reward each other’s beautiful achievements with loud applause. These are things that are on the verge of extinction from today’s world (competition sphere) that are wonderful to see when they happen. 67 corgis competed today on the Olympic events and 45 tried herding for the first time today.
